In recent years, the importance of intellectual property rights has been increasingly recognized, and since the enactment of the Basic Intellectual Property Act in 2011, the establishment of the National Intellectual Property Commission, and the century-long lawsuit between Samsung Electronics and Apple, there has been an active debate among academia, the government, the National Assembly, and industry on the desirable form of intellectual property infringement litigation.
However, there has been a growing consensus that there has been a lack of a forum to unite the voices of intellectual property lawyers, who play a key role in the enforcement and protection of intellectual property rights. In particular, in recent years, lawyers with diverse backgrounds, including science and engineering, have been entering the legal profession in large numbers.
Despite the fact that intellectual property infringement has become a national and social issue beyond the level of the company, it is not easy for lawyers to develop practical knowledge and abilities to handle domestic and international intellectual property-related cases with only partial training at the level of the Korean Bar Association or local bar associations.
Therefore, this association was established to provide a forum for various discussions as a community of intellectual property lawyers, to converge the results of the discussions into one voice and convey them to issues related to intellectual property law and social public debate, to educate a large number of young lawyers interested in intellectual property law, and to fulfill the role of cultivating and producing intellectual property lawyers.
